FEMA Funeral Assistant for COVID related deaths begins April 12

FEMA will begin accepting applications for funeral related expenses for COVID related deaths on Monday, April 12, 2021 through a dedicated call center at 844-684-6333 between 8am and 8pm.

To be eligible for funeral assistance, you must meet these conditions:

  • The death must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.
  • The death certificate must indicate the death was attributed to COVID-19.
  • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien who incurred funeral expenses after January 20, 2020.
  • There is no requirement for the deceased person to have been a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or qualified alien.

Types of documentation you will need include:

  • An official death certificate that attributes the death directly or indirectly to COVID-19 and shows that the death occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.
  • Funeral expenses documents (receipts, funeral home contract, etc.) that includes the applicant’s name, the deceased person’s name, the amount of funeral expenses, and the dates the funeral expenses happened.
  • Proof of funds received from other sources specifically for use toward funeral costs. We are not able to duplicate benefits received from burial or funeral insurance, financial assistance received from voluntary agencies, government agencies, or other sources.

    If you are eligible for funeral assistance you will receive a check by mail, or funds by direct deposit, depending on which option you choose when you apply for assistance.

PERTH AMBOY PUBLIC SCHOOLS RETURN TO HYBRID SCHEDULE APRIL 26

On Monday, April 26, 2021 the PAPS hybrid schedule will begin for students whose parents selected the hybrid option (read school letter). Parents have the option to select all-remote instruction to continue their students in remote instruction from home. In the hybrid schedules, all schools have designated Wednesdays as an “All-remote” day.  To enroll your student in hybrid or all remote, complete the parent survey by Wed March 31.

PSE&G replacing 186 out street lights in Perth Amboy

It was reported at the Perth Amboy City Council Meeting on March 22, 2021 that the City is working to improve maintenance of infrastructure and has been working closely with PSE&G to replace the 186 street lights that were out. Street lights are the property of PSE&G. You can report a street light outage through the PSE&G website. You can also contact PSE&G by phone at 1-800-436-7734. Please have the location of the street light, the nearest cross street and the pole number (usually located on a metal strip attached to the pole).
